On Mother’s Day the third round of the Italian Championship took place in Montevarchi, Italy, near Florence.
Both DIGA Procross GASGAS Factory Racing athletes took the chance to gain race experience in best conditions and a top-class starting field.
Already on Saturday Simon Längenfelder showed in the qualifying that the natural track suits him and his GASGAS MC250 F. With the fastest time in group C, he was allowed to choose his starting position on Sunday as third. Isak Gifting qualified fourth in Group B and was allowed to roll onto the starting gate in tenth place.
For Simon Längenfelder the race Sunday went almost perfectly. In the first race, the 17-year-old took the lead on the second lap and went on to take a commanding victory with a lead of 21 seconds. After the start of the second heat, Längenfelder was in second place, but despite good lap times, he was unable to take the lead and finished the race in second place. With places one and two, Simon Längenfelder decided the day’s standings in his favor.
Isak Gifting, on the other hand, had to start race one last after a crash in the first corner and fought his way up to seventh place. After the start of the second race Isak Gifting was in third place, but crashed twice and had to fight his way back to the front from the rear midfield. With consistent and fast lap times, Gifting finished the second race in tenth place and took ninth place in the day’s standings.
Simon Längenfelder: „I was able to deliver an almost perfect weekend and was very happy to finally be back at the starting gate after such a long break. Overall, I felt comfortable on the very tight and stony track and I’m happy to have clinched the day’s win for the whole team.“
Isak Gifting: „Overall I had a positive weekend, but unfortunately the results don’t reflect my speed. My crashes ruined my good results, but I still take a lot of positives from the weekend and look forward to the next races.“
Justin Amian – Team Owner and Manger: „It’s very nice to finally be back on a race track and see the season picking up speed. Both athletes did a good job in Montevarchi and showed their speed. However, we can’t rest on our performance and need to continue to focus on the start of MXGP.“
